Course Details

The Instructor Course is the most demanding and rewarding course that LEBA offers. It is a 48+hour instructor development course that teaches the candidates every skill needed to train officers in police mountain biking. The courses are offered several times a year in different areas of the United States and Canada. LEBA has trained officers from all 50 states as well as Canada, Puerto Rico, and other parts of the world. Our candidates are taught the “LEBA Way” so that they, in turn, can consistently teach others the skills and techniques that set LEBA apart from all other organizations.

Prerequisites

In order to attend an Instructor Course, you must be a sworn LEO or Military and must have successfully completed a Basic Course “A” or “B” (or its equivalent) and be recommended by your instructor. LEBA will also accept equivalent training from IPMBA or other organizations, subject to review by our Executive Board. At LEBA, we hold our instructors to the highest standards, and we expect nothing less than the highest degree of professionalism from them.

 

1. Be a member of a City, County, or State/Provincial, Federal or Military Law Enforcement agency.

2. Have successfully completed a basic class “A” or “B” certified LEBA course or its equiv- alent.

3. Be in excellent physical condition with no medical conditions that would prevent you from participating in strenuous physical activity.

4. Have Department/Agency approval to attend.

5. Be covered by appropriate “on the job” industrial insurance.

6. Bring a CPSC, CSA, SNELL, ANSI or ASTM approved bicycle helmet.

 

Required Equipment

Equipment the student is requred to have for this course

1. Bring eye protection, cycling gloves and comfortable cycling clothing with proper shoes for cycling.

2. Bring toe clips & straps or power grips on your pedals. Clipless systems will only be al- lowed if your Department uses clipless pedals for patrol. (All students must be able to demonstrate proficiency with toe clips)

3. Bring a bicycle that is mechanically sound and functioning properly, (including lights for night riding).

4. Have a great attitude and the desire to work as a team member with officers from dif- ferent jurisdictions.

5. One day of scenario training will be conducted using live ammunition. You will be re- quired to bring your issued duty belt, issued sidearm and your own ammo.
