DFW Airport will be hosting a 40 hour, Patrol Rifle Instructor class June 11-15. This class is designed to prepare instructors to efficiently teach patrol rifle classes to officers and recruits. Instructors will learn the techniques and skills necessary to conduct realistic training and qualifications that meet and exceed TCOLE standards.

Course Details

DFW Airport will be hosting a 40 hour, Patrol Rifle Instructor class June 11-15.  This class is designed to prepare instructors to efficiently teach patrol rifle classes to officers and recruits.  Instructors will learn the techniques and skills necessary to conduct realistic training and qualifications that meet and exceed TCOLE standards.

Louis Silvestro is a full time Texas Peace Officer who is currently a member of his Department’s firearms training cadre. Louis has been with his Department for over 16 years and has been a full time firearms instructor for over 10 years. Louis has extensive experience teaching firearms related skill sets and patrol tactics to individuals & groups in the classroom setting, live role player practical application scenarios, and live-fire range and shoot-house settings. Louis helps train the approximately 3,000 sworn members of his Department, to include veteran in-service personnel, reserve officers, and new recruits in basic, intermediate and advanced firearms training. Louis is an adjunct firearms and police tactics instructor at a regional Law Enforcement Academy, and owns/operates a firearms training company that works with the private sector.

 

**Class will be held at DFW Airport's Indoor and Outdoor ranges.  Class will begin Monday, 6/11 at 0800 at 1533 W. 27th Street, DFW Airport, 75261 (DPS Indoor Shooting Range).

ALL STUDENTS ATTENDING THIS COURSE WILL BE REQUIRED TO PASS THE BELOW LISTED QUALIFICATION WITH A 90% OR BETTER ON THE FIRST HOUR OF THE FIRST DAY IN ORDER TO RECEIVE A CERTIFICATE AT THE END OF THE CLASS. Students who fail to qualify on their first attempt will be offered a final second attempt immediately following the first attempt. Students who fail to score a 90% or better on this initial qualification will NOT receive a Patrol Rifle Instructor Certificate.

Prerequisites

Current police and military personnel in active, good standing with their agency. 

Instructors must have successfully completed TCOLE (or equivalent) Instructor and Firearms Instructor.



Required Equipment

  • ZEROED Patrol rifle that meets department policy and MUST include a weapon-mounted light, sling and iron sights. Optics are a welcomed addition; but the rifle must have iron sights.
  • WE WILL NOT ZERO BEFORE THE MORNING QUALIFICATION ON THE FIRST DAY OF CLASS.

 

  • A minimum of three rifle magazines.

     

  • Duty belt with duty handgun and at least 3 magazines. Pistol mounted lights are strongly encouraged, if your department authorizes their use.

  • At least one duty hand-held flashlight.

  • Ballistic vest and/or rifle plate carrier is strongly recommended.

  • Eye / ear protection

  • Black Sharpie(s)

  • AR-15 front sight tool and any tools needed for sighting optics

  • Gun cleaning equipment for rifle / pistol

  • 1,000 rounds of rifle ammunition

  • 350 rounds of duty handgun ammuntion

Online registration is required for this class via TTPOA's Training calendar.  Tuition is $500 for members and $550 for non-members.  Payment via credit card is preferred at the time of registration.  Payments made via check should be made out to "TTPOA" and sent to Sgt.
